Monday 29th August 2011 Sunset Portraits

Sunset PortraitsAfter a week of London style weather it was nice to welcome a  good old Queensland Sunny day …. and with it too came a dramatic sunset.

I do love my sunsets !! and I do love watching them from this location which is Shorncliffe jetty just within the Brisbane metro area and only a KM or two from my studio. I consider myself very lucky to have this backdrop right on my door step!

 Five  Sunset Photography Tips

1. Use a tripod to eliminate camera movement blur and especially after sunset.  Even after the sky has just turned black to your eye, a good photo can be achieved – see an example here http://www.paulcopsey.com.au/photoaday/friday-26th-august-2011-light-through-the-dark/

2. Pick a day with clouds. It’s the clouds that’s add mood and feeling and. Don’t discount cloudy days as  there can be sun breaks at sunset that offer amazing images.

3. Sunsets just after rain can also be spectacular.

4. Look for foreground interest to include in the photo tree a pier a person, etc. This adds depth to the scene and will help the viewer look through the scene to the sunset.

5. Don’t worry about white balance and adjust it afterwards in editing software. The sun going down happens all too quickly especially the sunsets in Brisbane so just shoot and worry about white balance afterwards.
